WSOP Poker Site by Harrahs

Harrahs has opened it’s much anticipated real money poker site, WSOP.com.  They are connected with the Caesars Casino so you can get a Caesars Casino bonus too if you’re into casino games.

Opening these sites is a big step for online gaming having a massive name in the land based casino and poker world break into the online gaming industry. They are operating on the trusted software company Devilfish Gaming, which you may recognize from 888 and Pacific Poker.

Since the websites are geo-taregted and redirects all non-UK visitors, we have not been able get a peak at the software in full operation. However, we have seen stills of the software and what the WSOP poker room has to offer. We expect the highest quality experiencing coming from Harrah’s Entertainment. To help get players in the action, they offer a huge list of deposit options. This is a signal they know what matters most to players and that is convenience, options as well as security. Is the WSOP Poker Site Available to US Players?

In short, the WSOP online poker site is only be available to European players upon its grand opening in late 2009. However, there have been many developments that have occurred on the US front since the passage of the UIGEA that indicate that Harrahs is positioning itself to become the premiere online poker site for US players. We are not sure of when the WSOP poker site would be available to US players; however we speculate that it could happen in time for the 2011 World Series of Poker. There have been recent pushes by lawmakers to repeal the UIGEA who say that it is too burdensome on the already struggling financial industry. In addition, lawmakers see a regulated US online gambling industry as a huge source of tax dollars.

In my opinion, it appears that Harrahs is preparing for the full return of US online gambling. By opening to European market, it will be able to have operations in full swing if and when the US market is officially re-opened. At that point, Harrahs will only need to lift an internal restriction on US players and overnight they have the chance to become an online poker giant. In addition, we speculate that there will be licensing requirements for online casinos to legally accept US players once the US online gaming market is officially regulated. Harrahs will more than likely have a jump start on acquiring that license which would give them a competitive advantage against even the largest online poker sites currently accepting US players. If they time a US launch around one of their annual airings of the WSOP, they have a chance to capture a major share of the US market. This is of course purely speculation, but it seems to be headed in that general direction.
