Poker, like the movie industry, tends to report bigger numbers year after year. 2009 has been about breaking records in every department. The biggest pots ever to change hands happened in 2009. The most massive tournament pools in history? 2009.

And the largest Bad Beat Jackpot ever triggered happened in February of this year.

The hand in question played out on the Merge Network, and the unlucky player (or incredibly lucky, depending on your opinion) was a member of Carbon Poker. Carbon’s terms for what constitutes a bad beat are more flexible than many other sites: to trigger the Jackpot you need to lose while holding quad sevens.

On the day it happened, a player with the screen name of RUGGIO was playing a $100 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold’em game at the poker website Carbon’s Poker. If you’re not clear how this works, the company kicks a slice of the rake into the Jackpot on every hand, at specific tables only.

RUGGIO held 7-8 suited, and the matching 9 and J arrived on the flop. He held out through some low level bidding in the hopes of completing a flush, and the river brought him a 10, giving him a natural straight. Confident of success, he went all in. He was beaten by a higher straight, but this triggered a Bad Beat Jackpot worth $1.2 million! After the split, RUGGIO took home $417,396, the biggest pot of its kind in history.

Full Tilt Poker as of the past couple weeks has been having problems with their echecks.  Normally they are only down for a couple days but this might be a longer issue.  Right now only Pokerstars.com has fully functional echecks for US players and people worldwide.  You can see the error most players are seeing at Fulltiltpoker.com. (as shown in picture below).

It has been rumored that the UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) which goes into place on December 1, 2009 was going to cause echeck deposits and withdraws to go busto.  As it appears right now, the rumors are right because as the deadline nears with less than 30 days remaining we’ve seen 3 sites lose echecks as a deposit option, Full Tilt Poker being the biggest.

The Cereus network including that of Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet also experienced the same problems as we reported earlier today.  The “Instant Echeck” option no longer appears in the cashier box.  As for Fulltiltpoker, you will see the option is available, but when you click on it tells you they are unavailable and currently experiencing difficulties and to try using your VISA credit card.

Instant Echecks are undoubtedly the easiest way to deposit online since the UIGEA was passed 3 years ago.  With the increased tightening of echecks there are hopes that online poker sites find a way to circumvent the coding that restricts many credit card deposits.

Plans to delay these problems with depositing via echeck and other means will hopefully be delayed thanks to the efforts of theppa.org and Barney Frank.  Bills have been put into circulation that would effectively put a hold on forcing the banks to block internet gambling transactions for 1 year.  If this were to go through it would mean time for the PPA and lobbyist groups to rally and find ways to regulate and tax online gambling.

As of now, if you want to play and deposit through echeck, you can still do so at Pokerstars.com.  We will keep you updated on this page if anything changes with Full Tilt Poker echecks.

Since the UIGEA is supposed to be fully enforced December 1, 2009, the most recent outage is more than likely a result of US regulators trying to enforce some of the rules regarding transactions.

Echecks are usually a great deposit method for US players. Ultimate Bet has been offering them for quite a while and is among the most consistent when it comes to availability of echecks. However, after the passage of the UIGEA, echecks have experienced difficulties from time to time. These problems are sometimes the result of the technical problems with the major echeck processing companies. However, some of the outages have been speculated to be a result of the US government trying to enforce rules and regulations against transactions with online gaming companies. Ultimate Bet is usually quick to get echecks online again after an outage. In most cases, the echeck deposit option only goes down for days at a time, however it has on rare occasions been known to go down for weeks.

Echecks are also known as electronic checks. They work very similar to paper checks, except the transaction is completely electronic. They are a preferred deposit method of many US poker players, mainly because of their speed and convenience.

We continue to monitor the availability of the echeck deposit option. Check back here for updates. For now, PokerStars.com is your best bet for using echecks.
